Here it is .. the evening before schools start (for my neighborhood..other counties started last week!) The pace changes effectively..rush hour, tomorrow a.m. I know the Metro will be packed! Everyone is back from vacations... now is the time to move to our next season.
It seems fitting that our program year really kicks off in September. Afterall, we are in this Association as part -social networking, but the best benefit is educational development... Professional Educational Development.
We'll have many ways to take this on.. newsletters, websites, blogs, study groups for the CPS and CAP exams, educational sessions- some day, some at night and a few that are a full Saturday of learning, meeting new peers and upgrading our knowledge of our grand profession. Some people just don't get as excited about IAAP as I do.. and I understand. We all have different priorities in life, different paths to take.
However, as a member of Capital Chapter... I would be puzzled to learn of any member that felt that efforts were not being made to either reach out to members, offer educational and/or social opportunities at flexible times to maximize attendance or felt there was no chance for them to contribute. Aiyeee!
Be involved and evolve...grow.. take a step out..
2007-2008 International President, Judy McCoy really primed attendees at her Inaugural dinner this year.. her opening Music for her theme year-- Born to be Wild- by Steppenwolf.... The first line? "Get your motor runnin' .. Head out the highway.. Looking for adventure.. and whatever comes my way"
It really is true.. I encourage you.. why do you pay membership fees.. is it to just have the membership on your resume?.. Why do you come to events? Some nugget in there.. tells you what about your career as administrative professional-- drives you... it may be money, recognition, personal growth.. or friendships..
We're about to kick off a fantastic program year.. with an incredibly enthusiastic and dedicated Board and extended Board ... Won't you get out on the highway with us?
